The species feeding on European thistle (leaf looks like it) is Cassida rubiginosa.

I think it is the same thistle (Cirsium arvense) introduced from europe too
…

We think this is a pupa
of a tortoise beetle, but we'll have to search to see which one feeds on thistle.

Thank you. I just spotted it and at first thought it was just a blemish then decided to look closer. There sure are some wierd bugs out there.
