I found this hanging from a tree by a silk thread in the middle of the path.

I think
it's safe to say it's a moth larva if it was hanging from a silk thread. There are tortricids and pyralids and other moth larvae that look more or less like this... Knowing what kind of tree it was might help narrow it down.

I'm no expert, but figured I might as well comment since no one else has after a month.
