Size: ca 6-7 mm
T. Rickman collected this fly from the snow surface and kindly donated the specimen to CAS. With Byers 1983 in hand, I thought I might be able to key it to species...but although it seems to match C. carolus in many ways, the shape of the ninth tergite seems to be closer to T. lyrata. The geographic location is close to both... Tom's live image of this insect is at iNat here:
