Moth - Pseudanthracia coracias

Moth - Pseudanthracia coracias
McKethan Lake, Hernando County, Florida, USA
May 7, 2005
Found in recently burned pine flatwoods. The moth seemed to blend in very well with the burnt habitat.

Photographed
this species today in Indian River County in recently burned pine scrub.
Compare to Machele's image.

Pseudanthracia coracias (8683)
Dr. James Adams's photo does not help ID this moth, but I have a book on Florida moths that I used. Also, I have collected many specimen in Florida since 1970.

McKethan Lake
By the way Steve, McKethan Lake is a GREAT place to take photos of hairstreak butterflies and underwing moths. You can find many species of each there. Look on the Sparkleberry shrubs for hairstreaks, (mostly in spring), and pine bark for hiding Catocala.

McKethan
Dennis - I actually went to McKethan Lake looking for Hairstreaks, but the sparkleberry was finished blooming by May 8th.

8694 - Green-dusted Zale Moth - Zale aeruginosa
I'm sticking my neck out a bit here, but I think the white markings seen in this specimen, taken together, are found in no other Zale.

Zale
This one was driving me crazy too Bob. I've never seen one with such bluish-gray color. I was thinking Zale undularis. It is in Florida, but now I'm sticking my neck out as well. What do you think?

Zale
This is one of the Zale moths. But you will have to scan the moth site to hope for a species ID.
