Lots of them at gas station lights in the desert - Stenomorphus convexior

Lots of them at gas station lights in the desert - Stenomorphus convexior
Eloy, Pinal County, Arizona, USA
September 1, 2008
Size: 18mm
These were larger and darker than the one I found in Picture Rocks earlier
specimen at UAIC

Moved
Moved from Stenomorphus.

The Eloy ones seem to be S. convexior
looking at series of my specimen and the UAIC

sigh...
I asked Kip Will for species names, and here's his reply: "Great looking beetles those Stenomorphus. There is a key by Ball (1991). Females may not be easy even with that. There aren't many species, but they can't be eyeball id-ed. At least not by me.
Sometimes they emerge in mass and are reported as nuisance pests in buildings that they enter after being attracted to lights."
