Ormenis saucia - Flatormenis saucia
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, San Diego County, California, USA
May 4, 2008
Size: BL ` 9 mm
This Flatid was found with a few others perched on a Smoke Tree (Psorothamnus spinosus) in Coachwhip Canyon, elevation less than 1000 ft elevation) in the hot dry desert. It is very similar to The first image I submitted from Palomar Mountain (elevation about 5500 ft and the wettest place in San Diego County). it is much paler, but is possibly the same species?

Ormenis saucia
This specimen appears to be heavily coated with wax, which is why it's so pale. The wing shape is characteristic of this common southwestern species.

Ormenis saucia
Thank you so much, Dr. Hamilton, for identifying this flatid.

Flatidae
I've been studying the photos of Anormenis. They all seem to have a sharper wing angle. My Flatid's wing is more rounded.
