Choreutis emplecta continues to multiply - Choreutis sexfasciella

Choreutis emplecta continues to multiply - Choreutis sexfasciella
Boynton Beach, Palm Beach County, Florida, USA
January 29, 2022
I returned to Boynton Beach, FL today and did a survey of the areas where I made my original "Choreutis emplecta" sightings. There were still some Choreutids on the cocoplum hedges on Hagen Ranch Road, but I noticed that since my last visit there is now an even larger population roosting on mid height Surinam cherry hedges a few blocks East as well. I counted 13 "Choreutis emplecta" moths this afternoon, so it would appear the new invasive population is continuing to increase. I did notice that many of the cocoplum hedges on Hagen Ranch Road seemed to have a white insecticide residue on the leaves. Perhaps this is what drove them to establish a new population on the Surinam cherry hedges a few blocks East instead.
