Cranefly - Tipula sayi - Male
Baiting Hollow, Sufflok County, New York, USA
August 27, 2008
Size: large
Found nectaring at Japanese Knotweed at the edge of the 100 ft. bluff overlooking Long Island Sound, which is a sandy area surrounded mainly by white and red oak, wild cherry, beech and hickory. There is also a salt water marsh fed by a fresh water stream nearby.
This appears to be the first BugGuide record for New York.
