Blue Mud Dauber Wasp - Chlorion aerarium

Blue Mud Dauber Wasp - Chlorion aerarium
Broadus, Montana, Powder River County, Montana, USA
September 4, 2008
Size: 2 1/2 inches
My dog found this large blue wasp. He did not appear aggressive, and did not try to fly very far. I have not seen one in this area before, but think it might be a mud dauber.

Moved from Chlorion.

Not a mud dauber
This is Chlorion, one of the cricket-hunters.

I agree.
I agree with Nick's identification, and wanted to add that this is a great set of images. Thanks for sharing!
