possible ichneumon wasp? - Trypoxylon

possible ichneumon wasp? - Trypoxylon
Elkton, Douglas County, Oregon, USA
August 27, 2008
Size: approx. 1/4 inch
These skinny little wasps have been rather abundant for several weeks. They don't do much beyond fly from one leaf to the next and either clean themselves or just sit for a bit . . . then off to the next leaf. I'm guessing ichneumon wasp, but I'm hopeful of being corrected.

Looks like...
a small Trypoxylon.

Right guess - Trypoxylon.
This is indeed one of the many small species of this... large genus. Now included in the Crabronidae family, like most "traditional Sphecidae".

yes it is
subgenus Trypoxylon

not an ichneumonid
i would suggest Sphecidae
