Eggs found growing on sulphur cinquefoil.

Eggs found growing on sulphur cinquefoil.
Shenandoah Valley, Augusta County, Virginia, USA
June 22, 2005
I realize that thisn't strictly a bug-- but maybe someday it will be! And so not sure where to turn to find an expert in this field, I am, perhaps presumptiously, submitting this photo in hope that someone might know something about the eggs laid by the different bugs.

Thank you!

These look like maybe some kind of giant silkmoth (Saturniidae) eggs.
