Well, at least a lot of them. I got it home alive and well by putting it into a small plastic vial and immediately into the cooler

If by scales you mean the yellow stuff,
throw some magnification on it and I think you'll see that it's not scales but a powdery yellow wax that coats much of the exoskeleton before eclosure but readily abrades away afterward.

Okay, sloppy
choice of words - but I'm still glad the waxy powder stayed on for the photos. When we watched many of these guys last year in Texas joe Canyon, they all had the yellow coating, but when I got them home, it was gone.
