Dicerca lurida - female

Dicerca lurida - Female
Tuckahoe State Park, 38.9773, -75.9360, Caroline County, Maryland, USA
July 23, 2005
Size: 14.5 mm
Took me years to post this, but had always wanted to include the ventral view. Note the "entire" metacoxal plates (i.e., the is no large notch as is seen with Dicerca obscura). Many D.lurida and D.obscura have been placed by experts/editors to species level on BugGuide without a good view of the metacoxae. I think they are doing this based on the latter species being much less elongate in dorsal view, but I have never seen D.obscura, so I am not sure if this is always true? Also note, there is a tridentate apical emargination on the last sternite (indicates female gender), but just very hard to see in this image.
