Not spider wasp.
This is a sphecid wasp, identified by the obvious pronotal "collar" that spider wasps lack. Not sure what genus this is, but an accurate, relative indication of size would help. Great images in any event.

This wasp was just slightly smaller than the Great Black Wasp(Sphex pensylvanicus)which was nearby on another plant.
