beach bug - Tropidischia xanthostoma

beach bug - Tropidischia xanthostoma
La Push, Clallam County, Washington, USA
September 7, 2008
Size: 2"-3"
I found this thing on the beach moving really slowly dragging its belly
It looked like a potato bug with grasshopper legs and shrimp antlers

Camel cricket.
This looks like a nymph of the camel cricket, Tropidischia xanthostoma. Adults can have a maximum legspan of eight (8) inches! Totally harmless, and usually found in old wells, under bridges, and other dark, moist niches.
