Synonyms and other taxonomic changes

Eupithecia columbrata McDunnough, 1940, listed as a full species in Hodges et al. (1983) (Checklist), was synonymized as a subspecies of 7575 Eupithecia mutata Pearsall, 1908, and elevated back to full species status following Parsons et al. (1999). (MPG)

Identification

It is characterized by its somewhat larger size and much brighter coloration, the ruddy cross bands being at times strikingly prominent. FEMALE GENITALIA: The main distinction from mutata is found in the dorsal spine patch of the bursa. Instead of the thick cluster of long, thin spines found in mutata, the spines are very stout, arranged in a single row, and relatively few in number, although there is considerable variability in this respect.(McDunnough, 1949).
