Explanation of Names
Greek sarx (σαρξ) 'flesh' + phagein (φαγειν) 'to eat' = 'flesh eater' (the larvae feed on carrion/rotting meat)

Despite numerous claims to the contrary, S. carnaria doesn't occur anywhere in the Americas.
