wooly aphids - Grylloprociphilus imbricator

wooly aphids - Grylloprociphilus imbricator
Athens County, Ohio, USA

These wooly aphids were on a beech tree. Black sooty mold was growing on the honeydew below them. I was wondering what species they might be.

Moved from Aphids.

Moved from Aphidoidea.

Beech blight aphid?
I checked Eastern Forest Insects (1) and it mentions the beech blight aphid, Prociphilus imbricator as a wooly aphid pest of beech. I think maybe the name is now Fagiphagus imbricator because I found pictures here at forestry images.

Thank you much
