Deer fly, 10:45 (Obliterated...) - Chrysops mitis - Female
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
July 2, 2008
It flew around my in eerie circles for too long, landed on my net once but too quick for photo. The only way to see it closely without a chance of being harmed was to catch it which took some effort and sprained my arm....I have never been stabbed by Horse/Deer flies and I don't plan to be...It died, and even though my Mum hates them to the end of the Earth she doesn't even like me killing these... I also thought it would be appropriate to find the species out of all the similar ones (I thought, since there is probably tons of similars.) , but it turns out this one only needed a picture.

Interesting creature
Wings and abdomen have a bee fly look, plus thorax reminds me of some syrphids. Neat!
