Ichneumon wasp - Enicospilus purgatus

Ichneumon wasp - Enicospilus purgatus
Amarillo, Randall County, Texas, USA
September 8, 2008
Size: 20mm
This ichneumon wasp was on the bricks under an outdoor light, presumably attracted to the light the night before. It looks very much like those in the genus Ophion, but I'm not going to presume to be correct, so I'll leave it at family.

Enicospilus…
Several spots in the DM cell of the forewing and an adventitious vein place this in this genus.

See reference here.

Ophioninae.
Same subfamily at any rate. The oversize ocelli ("simple eyes") and the sclerotized spots on the forewing, beneath the stigma, don't leave much doubt.
