Damsel Fly to ID - Enallagma carunculatum - male

Damsel Fly to ID - Enallagma carunculatum - Male
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
June 28, 2005
This damsel fly appeared to be all brown until I was able to see this image. It is still mainly brown and I don't think I have taken any photos of this one. ID would be great. Thank you all.

We're gonna disappoint you and say Tule again, male
We're from the Midwest and don't really know the Northwestern Damsels, but everything we read seems to say you have 4 Enallagma there: Boreal, Marsh, Northern, and Tule. The first three have males that are essentially blue with small amounts of black on their abdomen. Tule is the only one that's mostly black with small amounts of blue on its abdomen. This is a young (or cold) specimen, so the pale violet has not yet turned blue, but it has a mostly black abdomen. So you seem to have a nice collection of male and female Tule images. Look for an animal that is mostly blue and you'll likely have one of the other three, though we don't know if anyone will know which!

Thanks
Thanks again for the time you spend on these images, I really appreciate it. I'll keep looking.
