Identification
Difficult genus with many of the species sexually dimorphic. To accurately determine species it is advisable to have specimens of both sexes, and in good condition. Scale pattern will vary within a species but is normally consistent enough to be a useful character.(4)
Range
holarctic, Afrotropical, Australian; most of NA to Nicaragua(5)(2)
Food
hosts: mostly Asteraceae and Convolvulaceae(2)
Life Cycle
Larvae are in seeds or may cause galls(2)
