most likely Eleodes gigantea
a straight dorsal photo is the best angle for ID;
also an accurate size is very helpful - of the 2 likely candidates, one (omi*ssa) is 15 mm and the other (gigan*tea) generally over 30 mm.

about 17 mm
Thanks very much.
I have reviewed my photos and the distance of the camera from the insect resulting in a new size estimate of 2/3 inch or 17mm.
