Great Spreadwing - Archilestes grandis - female

Great Spreadwing - Archilestes grandis - Female
Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado, USA
September 13, 2008
Size: 1.8 inches
After studying pictures and descriptions for a while, I conclude that I don't even know if this is a dragonfly or a damselfly. At rest, the wings are held out like a dragonfly should, but the hindwing is not broader at the base like a dragonfly. the shape of the tail looks more like a damselfly. It is resting on a Gladiola.

Yes! A striking damsel, isn't it?
This is a female Great Spreadwing, Archilestes grandis
