Wasp (?) on golden bush - Podalonia
Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve, Los Angeles County, California, USA

Observed a few of these insects while at the Poppy Reserve yesterday. Most appeared to be mating with two being attached at their aft tips. They even remained attached while flying; at least short distances.
I wonder if the lady bug is trying to evade the wasp. There were also a large number of black/red beetles on this golden bush and all of these were also located under the blossoms.
