I thought this was an ant until I saw the enlarged picture and it looks like it has tiny wing stubs.

How was this ID made? There isn't much in the info page and I don't know what to look for.

by Don Chsndler under this picture about there only being one species in New England for this genus.

 
in these guys, all indiv. look about the same,
they're funny primitive ants
