Syrphid?
I'm certainly no expert, but it looks to me like a fly larva rather than a caterpillar, and I seem to remember seeing Syrphid larvae that were pretty much the same general shape.

I don't think it's a coincidence that there are collapsed husks of dead aphids right next to what looks like the head.

The lack of antagonism by the ants may be due to chemical defenses fooling the ants into thinking it's something it's not.
