Identification
Note that in the eastern USA many A. erythrogaster have largely dark metasomas with only limited areas of red. Mitchell (1960) treated called the darker form of A. erythrogaster subspecies subaustralis, but A. subaustralis is now known to be a different, valid species of subgenus Tylandrena from the western USA.
