Some type of Praying Mantis? - Pseudovates arizonae

Some type of Praying Mantis? - Pseudovates arizonae
City of Tombstone / outside our side door - on the exterior of our home, Cochise County, Arizona, USA
June 29, 2005
Size: About 3 inches long
Is this some sort of a Praying Mantis? We see a lot of Praying Mantis at our home, but they are usually green all over, and don't have dark markings on the body. This one had a brown head and legs, and the green section had brown markings. It seemed very aware of my presence, and was "looking" at me. It had the wide spaced eyes on either side of its head - just like a Praying Mantis. Very cool looking bug. Two other images of the same bug are attached.
