Arge pectoralis

Arge pectoralis
Nashua, New Hampshire, USA
July 23, 2008
Size: about 1.5 cm., maybe 2 cm
We were pruning branches (rather large branches!) off of a pair of birch trees beside our house in an attempt to prevent them from causing further damage to our roof, which the branches had been scraping against & may have been the cause of leeks in out house (may have...).
A few of the branches had colonies (if you can so call it that) of larval sawflies that had been eating the leaves of the birch trees (these were white birches, by the way).

Note the curled body: this is probably a threat response (the photos were taken not long after the branch had crashed to the ground).
