Unidentified Female Dragonfly - Tricanthagyna trifida - female

Unidentified Female Dragonfly - Tricanthagyna trifida - Female
Fort Myers, Lee County, Florida, USA
August 24, 2008
Size: Approximately 4 inches
This is obviously a female, but I have not been able to identify the species after reviewing pictures from my guide books and online pictures. It is not one of the species that is listed on the checklist I have for Lee County, FL.

Moved
Moved from Dragonflies.

Phantom
This is actually a female Phantom Darner (Triacanthagyna trifida), IDed mostly by the constriction of the abdomen at S3. Compare this female Regal Darner to see what I mean:

Note the unconstricted abdomen at S3 and the slightly different lateral thoracic pattern. Nice find! Please submit this new county record to odonatacentral.org.

Coryphaeschna ingens - Regal
Coryphaeschna ingens - Regal Darner is my guess, wait for an expert though
