Beetle - Chrysomela crotchi
Borrego Trail (#150), Santa Fe National Forest, Santa Fe County, New Mexico, USA
July 25, 2023
On the underside of an aspen leaf (Salicaceae).
Elevation - approx. 8600'.
Mixed conifer forest (ponderosa pine, white fir, Douglas-fir, Gambel oak, and aspen with small openings with grasses and blooming forbs.

Edit:
Perhaps Chrysomela crotchi? I found this on the underside of a nearby aspen leaf , which the Balabans have suggested could be Chrysomela.

I reviewed Host List of Leaf Beetle Species Occurring in the United States and Canada to determine which Chrysomela spp. use Populus tremuloides as a host plant. All except Chrysomela crotchi have distinctive markings on the elytra. Chrysomela crotchi is the only monochrome Chrysomela species listed for Populus tremuloides.
