Many Hued Grasshopper - Poecilotettix sanguineus - Female
Camp Creek, New River Mountains, Maricopa County, Arizona, USA

Size: > 3 cm
The host plant was Baccharis sergiloides. I thought it might be one of the Schistocerca, but I saw none with such a rainbow of color.

Poecilotettix sanguineus
I think this genus and Hesperotettix are very closely related. Probably close to Dactylotum too (notice that the arrangement of the color pattern is nearly exactly the same).

A very striking species, but for some reason very rarely seen.

Hesperotettix sp.
I think this is a species of Hesperotettix. David Ferguson should be able to say for certain. What a beauty!
