Moved from Simulium.

Simulium vittatum
Simulium vittatum female

Species or species complex?
Do you mean to ID to species S. vittatum or to the vittatum+tribulatum complex which Adler, Currie, and Wood(1) describe as morphologically indistinguishable?

Moved
Moved from Black Flies.

In the black flies multicolored legs (exclusive of tarsi) are unique to parts of Simulium(1).

Black fly.
Awesome images of a black fly, family Simuliidae. Someone else may know what genus. Outstanding addition to the guide.

Second that
As soon as I saw this pic I new it would be something good, never seen a fly like that before, very cool!

Why so rare?
Why so few black fly pictures in the guide? There are only 43 including mine. By reputation they are very common up north.
