Explanation of Names
Specific epithet from Latin unis fascia meaning "single-banded", for the single diagonal band crossing the forewing.
Forewing length 10.5-12.7 mm. (3)
Adult: forewing yellow, crossed by diagonal orangish-brown band; orangish-brown blotch along costa about two-thirds distance from base; another blotch near middle of subterminal area; hindwing pale gray.
Widespread in the Northeast at low elevations, west to Alberta, Colorado, eastern Washington and northern Arizona at high elevations. (3)
A general feeder, have been bred on herbaceous ground covers, conifers and ash. (3)
Sparganothis sulfureana forewing has broken diagonal band, and lacks blotch in subterminal area.
