I measured the beetle with a ruler, and 7mm is as accurate as I could eyeball. I'll see if I can get a close-up shot of the palps.

I've been in the field all da
I've been in the field all day today and I couldn't figure out what else is brownish and has a pronotum this cylindrical...usually just Erich*sonius and Neo*bisnius - in Ontario...
I forgot all about Cafius, thanks Don

Hi Tom, do you have a shot of the palpi exposed? It looks like either Staphyl*ininae (Erich*sonius) or one of the many genera of Paederi*nae. Also, how certain is the 7mm measurement?
