Size: 3.9 mm

700’ elevation, GPS = 38.8193, -121.1166.
Rural residential oak woodland area with livestock & fruit trees.

Captured in a Vertical Flight Intercept Trap (V-FIT) left for 18 days (June 2-20) with 100% Propylene Glycol filled pans.

- Without distinct jugal lobe.
- Shining black, especially head and dorsal thorax.
- Hind trochanters 1-segmented.
- Blue background (paper towel) on dorsal was necessary to reduce the background illumination.

Hope I'm right on this one, apparently it isn't very common.
Any confirmation or help appreciated.

Amazed.

Thanks for confirming this. I was afraid I had not given enough information to make my case. It doesn't have a lot of definitive characters. I had never seen one before and I had it in a pile of crabronids. I couldn't key it to anything in Bohart's "Sphecid wasps of the world" so reverted to the Borror & Delong family key and was puzzled when I got to Sierolomorphidae. More research proved this as a possible id.

I can see why few people report it. I wonder how many I've passed over from my V-FIT samples. Next year I'll look more closely for it.

It is nice to add CA to the range map.
