Seacoast nit - Glischrochilus siepmanni

Seacoast nit - Glischrochilus siepmanni
Rye, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, USA
September 20, 2008
Size: about 7 mm
By arranging to work last Sunday instead of last Saturday I was able to participate in the 2008 Seacoast Science Center all-species bioblitz at Odiorne State Park, New Hampshire. My weapons were sweep net and litter sifter but I found this and two other nitidulid beetle species by tearing into rotten fruit under feral apple trees. (A fourth species I took by sweep net.) They are the first of their family to be added to the center's cumulative checklist.

I knew what species this one was as soon as I saw it thanks to prior images posted by Tom Murray and Joe Schuller. Fortunately this genus is easy to key by markings, at least in the nearctic.
