A tidal pool?
Could they have been washed out into the pool? But even then, the environment isn't what I'd think they'd like. Huh... Well, It's an Oribatid none the less, I'm positive of that.

Fascinating find, Steve
I'll be interested in seeing their final ID. I noticed that the 'droplet' showing below the bug has the same white relective configuration as that on the backs of the bugs.... Is the white pattern a product of your flash, or was that pattern visible without the flash?
