Margined White - Pieris marginalis

Margined White - Pieris marginalis
Coos Bay, Coos County, Oregon, USA
September 25, 2008
Size: Approx 1"
Observered feeding on wildflowers at 2:45 PM. At first thought White Cabbage but there are no dark spots on wings.

These "Veined Whites"
have in the past been refered to Pieris napi. Lately there is a trend to split it up into regional "species". I think the jury is far from in on what constitute real species in this group (and I'm inclined to keep calling most of them P. napi). However, by the most commonly used treatments now, this would be Pieris marginalis, which includes most of the populations south from Canada.

Pieris marginalis
Thank you for the explanation and ID. I will move the image to the "Pieris marginalis" page -

Think its
either
Margined white or Virginia White

White's
I would have to eliminate "Virginia White" due to range. Will investigate "Margined". Thanks
