Soldier Beetle - Pacificanthia consors

Soldier Beetle - Pacificanthia consors
Cupertino, Picchetti Ranch section of Monte Bello Open Space Preserve, Santa Clara County, California, USA
May 15, 2008
Size: ~14 mm
Downy appearance all over. Head, thorax, abdomen orange; very similar to the Downy Leather-wing, Podabrus tomentosus, in family Cantharidae. (tomentose, def: covered with a layer of short, matted hairs, giving a woolly appearance; usually used to describe plants.)

Cantharidae > Cantharini
all i can tell :-[

Looks like Podabrus pruinosus
to me

Looks like Cantharis cf. consors to me

On second look...
I believe you are right. The coloration and robustness of the legs seem more like consors.
