Tibicen - Hadoa parallela

Tibicen - Hadoa parallela
Box Canyon, Pima County, Arizona, USA
September 27, 2008

Moved from Tibicen parallelus.

Moved from Tibicen chiricahua.

NOTE - Tibicen parallelus:
little if any frosted grey pruinosity
black pronotum
narrower wing margin than seen in chiricahua
dark eyes

Please bear with us ;)
The Tibicen guide pages are still under construction. Western taxa have long been more difficult to id. based on limited lit. and considerable confusion interpreting original descriptions. The initial id. was based on limited info, fewer guide pages for placement (incomplete species list) and comparison with similar images placed under chiricahua.

Moved from Cicadas.

Tibicen chiricahua
That would be my claim. I have seen this species in several localities south of Tucson, incl. the Santa Ritas, Baboquivaris, and Atascosas. It generally seems to frequent the mountain canyons, however, I have seen and collected it in "lower desert" areas like Rio Rico and Tubac Presidio (perhaps the planted trees fascilitate these little guys in the low desert).
