Hollis, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA

Came to UV light set up in marshy stream locale.

Size?
Any idea of size? If the moth is gone you can measure the squares of the fabric and estimate it from there.

Maybe
You're quite right Beatriz. If it was a beetle ... I'm afraid moths are just subjects of convenience while I'm waiting for the beetles to show up. At some point when I have my moth sheet out I'll think to measure a square so I can have some basis for estimating size of beetles *and* moths.

Eastern Tent Moth
Found one in the guide here.

Maybe mine's a male.
After all, it has more elaborate antennae and it's more hirsute. Mr. Roth's specimen is wearing a light sweater; mine's decked out in mink. Mine's a bit richer in the color department too.

Thanks for the ID Gerry. I found other images on the Web that were an even better match to mine.

I posted some a few weeks back
that were of a more "redish" color than brown. Click here. They are at my porch light every night. You're right that chocolatey (sp?) brown color while common isn't the only color.
