Brown and white moth - Gazoryctra

Brown and white moth - Gazoryctra
Brighton, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA
October 1, 2008
Size: 1 inch
Does anyone know what this beautiful moth is?

Moved to genus
Moved from Gazoryctra pulcher.

G. pulcher is very different. This looks more like novigannus which apparently makes it to Wyoming so I guess Utah is possible.

It looks like pulcher...
I checked on the Utahlepsociety.org website, after the ghost moth suggestion, and they had two moths listed and it looks like this one might be Gazoryctra pulcher.

agreed
after looking at the Mona listing of species in Utah and then going to MPG for photos, I think you are correct that it's 0026 – Gazoryctra pulcher

Thanks, Nina.
I appreciate your research. Now if someone will just make a space for it in the Guide. I have no idea how that's done.

I'll take care of that
I will write to the editors who are capable of making new pages.-Nina

Thank you.
Thanks for all your help, Nina.

Hepialidae
One of the Ghost Moths. Do not know which species.

Thanks, Harry!
Never heard of a ghost moth but they're beautiful. I appreciate your time.

Swifts
Some people refer to them as "Swifts" in addition to Ghost Moths. They are a primitive group, classified with the microlepidoptera despite their decent size. They are called ghost moths for their habit of engaging in ritualized mating flights around twilight and the white-colored species that do this have an eerie appearance. I am confident that someone in your area will know this species. There are not all that many of them.
