Hatched from same stem - Oecanthus forbesi - male

Hatched from same stem - Oecanthus forbesi - Male
Pleasant Prairie, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, USA
August 4, 2008
Size: 15mm
This photo shows two color variations. They both hatched from the same Goldenrod stem. It is unknown, however, if more than one female had oviposited in the stem. The stem was collected alongside a gravel road. (Doubt if it would have produced young TCs if it had not been collected since it was lying on the road).

Note
After work by researchers who analyzed songs of tree crickets in multiple states, it is now generally accepted that greenish tree crickets with dark on the antennae, head, pronotum and/or limbs - that are west of Ohio - are Forbes' tree crickets.

(This much black rules out Prairie tree cricket)
