Size: > 5 cm
On suggestion from Dave Ferguson I checked Tamarix (salt cedar). At least 6 grasshopper species were feeding on this exotic, invasive weed. Dark eyes and distinct mid-dorsal line. Does eye color fade on dried specimens? At the same location I found a specimen clearly of S. shoshone.

Notice the dots
This is a prime example of a specimen that keys out to S. lineata mating with one that keys out to S. shoshone, at least based on the more recent publications. Note that the female has dark dots at the rear of each abdomenal segment (=lineata), and the male does not (=shoshone). Of course they are really the same thing (see comments under "INFO".)
