Orb Weaver - Larinioides patagiatus

Orb Weaver - Larinioides patagiatus
Neebish Island, Chippewa County, Michigan, USA
June 27, 2005
Found in the buds atop some tall grasses. Didn't get a measurement, but it wasn't a very large spider. I didn't see an orb web nearby, but it looks like an orb weaver to me. I can see tiny strands of web in this photo.

Maybe this one belongs in the "Cluster to be ID'd" group? [cite:13286]

Moved from Furrow spiders.

Larinioides patagiatus
This is a Larinioides patagiatus

Orb weaver.
Indeed, it is an orb weaver, and a really terrific image of it! This month I should receive my copy of the new field guide to North American spiders done by the American Arachnological Society. I don't expect it to be too user-friendly, but maybe it will help us get to the bottom of our many fine, unidentified orb weaver images:-)

Field Guide
I'm looking forward to that guide...had it on order for a while. Looking forward to your guide too!
