Eupeodes
Racine, Racine County, Wisconsin, USA

I presume this is a type of fungus...although it doesn't have a fuzzy appearance. How many types of fungus are there?

Correct
The fly is a syrphid in the genus Eupeodes.
There are a few insect eating fungi, generally called Entomophtora!
