Dragonfly identification help - Phyllogomphoides albrighti
San Antonio, Medina River Park, Bexar County, Texas, USA
October 1, 2008
There were at least two different clubtail species flying over the river on Friday. One group was fairly easy to identify as Eastern Ringtails (Erpetogomphus designatus), however, the other was more timid and therefore more difficult to ID. It was larger for sure, and my inclination was to go with a Sulphur-tipped Clubtail (Gomphus militaris), however, the only decent shot that I got was head-on and I'm not good enough with IDs to say whether or not I'm right. So my question is this: is there sufficient information in this photograph to identify this dragonfly?

Looks like Five-striped Leaftail
Phyllogomphoides albrighti.

Totally wrong on my part!
Totally wrong on my part!

Probably
I don't think this is sulphur-tipped though, rhe abdomen is too skinny and the club too large. Look at this and see what you think, but WAIT FOR AN EXPERT. There are a bunch of people who know dragons far better than I do!
