Size: 6.8 mm
700’ elevation, GPS = 38.8193, -121.1166.
Rural residential oak woodland area with livestock & fruit trees.

Captured in a Vertical Flight Intercept Trap (V-FIT) left for 20 days (August 1-21) with 100% Propylene Glycol filled pans.

After keying this in American Beetles (1) going down 20 at least paths, I give up.
Please tell me where I went wrong. I captured this one last year and one this year in July. I have had this trap running at this loca

The pictures show a few of the basic characters that seemed important.
- Mandibles without a scar.
- Antennal scribes meet underneath and extend to the eyes.
- Branched setae on several areas of the pleuron (the prothorax on the left).
- The 1st & 2nd abdominal segments are fused.
- The tarsi are fused at the base.
- There is no ocular pronotal lobe.
- I believe there are 6 funnicle segments,
- and a 2 segmented club (one small basal segment and the large terminal segment.

Added notes for the species L. curtus id.
- Abdominal ventrites with dense vestiture of bi- or trifid, hair-like scales see picture.
- Rostrum short, straight, barely reaching half the length of pronotum.
- Rostrum with distinct median dorsal carina - see picture.
– Rostrum stout.
- Elytra short, ovate.
- Ventral edge of rostrum rounded, lacking longitudinal ridge and groove.

Wow.
I certainly didn't think that the prosternum was dented enough to be considered as a channel. Missed that entirely and didn't even try that branch.
